One-day awareness cum- training program on “Balanced use of fertilizers/Adoption of science based nutrient management” was organised at ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack in which thirty numbers of Sarpanchs & Ward Members from Gatiroutpatna, Nimaisapur Gram Panchayats of Cuttack Sadar Block; Gopinathpur and Satyabhamapur Gram Panchayats of Salepur Block on 20.05.2026 under Mera Gaon Mera Gourav (MGMG) program of ICAR & DAFE, New Delhi. The objective of the program was to improve awareness regarding harmful effects of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and their replacement using biofertilizers and biopesticides. About 30 members (13 male & 17 female members) attended this program. Dr. Pratap Bahttacharyya, Director (I/c), CRRI in his inaugural address emphasized on the prominent role of Sarpanchs & ward members to communicate the necessity of balanced usage of fertilizers to the farmers of their respective Gram Panchayats. Dr. Annie Poonam, Principal Scientist stressed upon adoption of science based natural and biological farming approaches in the context of depleting natural resources and increase in demand, shortage in supply of chemical fertilizers.
This program was directed by Dr. Upendra Kumar, coordinated by Dr. Srikanta Lenka & Dr. Sudipta Paul. Detail deliberations and discussions on improvement of soil fertility, application of biofertilizers and importance of soil health were imparted by Dr. Sushanta Kumar Naik, Dr. Upendra Kumar and Dr. Dibyendu Chatterjee respectively. At the end, participating Sarpanchs & Ward members visited Oryza Museum & Biofertilizer Production Unit.
