Khet Bachao Abhiyan: CRRI Conducts Training Programme on Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Plant Protection Chemicals under MGMG at Bhadrak, Odisha ![]()
Under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) programme, ICAR – CRRI, Cuttack organized a farmers’ training programme on “Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Plant Protection Chemicals” at Sendhatira village, Bonth Block, Bhadrak District, Odisha on 04 June 2026. The initiative aligned with the broader campaign, Khet Bachao Abhiyan, promoting sustainable and balanced nutrient management.
The programme was conducted as part of the innovative state-funded project, “Production, Popularisation & Supply of Quality Bio-inoculants in Rice-based Cropping & Farming System of Odisha (Jaiva Poshak)”, supported by the Government of Odisha.
The training was organized in association with Innovative Mission Farmers Producer Company Limited (IMFPCL), Kenduapada, Bhadrak. Dr. Sudipta Paul, Senior Scientist and Programme Coordinator, emphasized the economic and environmental benefits of biofertilizers. He highlighted the need to gradually reduce chemical fertilizer dependency and elaborated on the application of NRRI-Endo-N biofertilizer, which can reduce urea requirement by up to 25% in rice cultivation. Dr. Debarati Bhaduri, Senior Scientist, focused on effective crop residue management and balanced fertilizer use for improving soil health. She explained the application of Tech NRRI Decomposer for converting rice straw into nutrient-rich compost and the use of the Customised Leaf Colour Chart (CLCC) for precise and need-based nitrogen management. Sri Swapanjit Panda, associated with the Jaiva Poshak project, demonstrated the practical application of CRRI biofertilizers in rice and vegetable crops. The programme was moderated by Sri Subash Chandra Bairiganjan, Managing Director, IMFPCL, and facilitated by Sri Susanta Mohapatra, Senior Technical Assistant, SSD. Forty five progressive farmers (32 male and 13 female) actively participated in the programme. An interactive session enabled farmers to directly engage with scientists, discuss field-level challenges, and gain practical insights into the effective use of CRRI biofertilizers for rice and vegetable cultivation. The programme reinforced CRRI’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, improved soil health, and reduced chemical dependency through scientific interventions and farmer-centric outreach initiatives.
