Two-Day Training Programme on “SOP for Paddy Straw Residue Management” under OIIPCRA Project held at ICAR-CRRI, Kataka

A two-day training programme on “SOP for Paddy Straw Residue Management” under the OIIPCRA Project, supported by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, was organized by ICAR-CRRI, Kataka, during 5th–6th October 2026.
The programme aimed to develop Master Trainers among agricultural officers (BAOs, AAOs and ADAs) for effective implementation of in-situ and ex-situ paddy straw residue management technologies. The training covered microbial decomposition, compost production, residue recycling and value addition through biodegradable pulp plate production, along with practical demonstrations and SOP guidelines. The technical sessions were delivered by scientists and experts from ICAR-CRRI. Thirty participants (19 male and 11 female) from 14 districts of Odisha attended the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Pratap Bhattacharyya, Head, Crop Production Division, who highlighted the importance of scientific paddy straw management. Dr. P.C. Jena, Senior Scientist, welcomed the participants, while Dr. P. Panneerselvam, Course Coordinator, briefed them on the objectives and importance of trained Master Trainers for district-level implementation. The programme concluded with the presidential remarks of Dr. G. A. K. Kumar, Director, ICAR-CRRI, who emphasized effective implementation of the SOP for improving soil health, enhancing farmers’ income and reducing pollution caused by residue burning. Dr. Baijayanti Nayak, Senior Technical Officer, ICAR-CRRI, proposed the vote of thanks.
