Sustaining the Soil Health by adopting Biofertilizer and integrated nutrient management: training for FPC at Gopa village: Jagatsinghpur District

ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack organized a training programme under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) on 10th June 2026 at Gopa village, Jagatsinghpur block, Jagatsinghpur Dist. This program formed the integral component of “Mera Gaon Mera Gourav” program of ICAR & DAFE, New Delhi with the theme on balanced use of fertilizers & Khet Bachao Abhiyan under the innovative project “Production, Popularization & supply of quality bioinoculants in rice-based cropping & farming system of Odisha (Jaiva Poshak) funded by state Govt. of Odisha. This program was organised in association with Sidhgorekha FPCL and about 48 farmers/members of FPCs including 41 male & 7 female farmers were benefited from this program. Dr. Annie Poonam, Principal Scientist and programme coordinator deliberated on balanced use of fertilizers using 4R formula of Right Source, Right dose, Right time and Right place, integrated Nutrient management (INM), benefits of using biofertilizers, diversification of crops/ integrated farming system and residue management for reducing the cost of cultivation. Dr.Loton Bose, Principal Scientist explained on the popular climate resilient CRRI rice varieties and saline tolerant HYVs for coastal lowlands. Dr. Manas Bag, Principal Scientist, has emphasized on the applications of Trichoderma as biostimulat to supplement plant nutrition. Dr. Sasmita Purohit, scientist, KVK Jagatsinghpur has explained about need & importance of Biofertilizers and recommended Azolla as good Biofertilizer. Smt. Soumya Subhadarsini, AAO, Jagatsinghpur has explained the farming practices in the block & emphasized on CRRI Biofertilizers & urgent need for farmers to cut short chemical fertilizers & replace them with Biofertilizers. This program was moderated by Sri Baman Moharana & Bidyadhar Jati of Sidhgorekha FPCL, Jagatsinghpur. Dr. Sai Krishna Repalli, Research Associate of Jaiva Poshak project demonstrated the application methods of biofertilizers and Tech- decomposer for composting. Sri Anjan Kumar Samal, sarpanch of Gopa village has proposed of vote of thanks and expressed farmers of Gopa village will adopt biofertilizers, this coming Kharif season. There was interaction between farmers & scientists on the effective application of CRRI Biofertilizers in rice & vegetable crops and the program was facilitated by project staff. Adoption of integrated nutrient management thereby improving soil health & preserving soil microbial diversity by applications of Biofertilizers & balanced use of fertilizers was theme of this program.
