Seven Climate-Resilient Rice Varieties Released for Odisha’s Diverse Ecosystems
In a significant step toward sustainable agriculture and enhanced farmer prosperity, the Odisha State Seed Sub-Committee approved seven high-yielding rice varieties developed by ICAR-CRRI for cultivation across diverse agro-ecological zones of Odisha. These include CR Dhan 215 (Indumati) with salinity and anaerobic germination tolerance for coastal and aerobic areas; CR Dhan 325 (Salila) and CR Dhan 334 (Satyadev), both medium-duration doubled haploid varieties suited for irrigated ecosystems; and CR Dhan 335 (Alok), a premium quality variety adapted to DSR, irrigated, and rainfed shallow lowlands. CR Dhan 604 (Kalpana) withstands low temperature during seedling stage and heat during the reproductive phase, ideal for the dry (Dalua) season. CR Dhan 705 (Ganga) is a medium-duration hybrid with long slender grains, suitable for irrigated, rainfed, and DSR conditions. CR Dhan 912 (Ashutosh Mehek) is a high-yielding, non-basmati aromatic variety with premium grain quality for the irrigated ecosystem. All these varieties are tolerant to major pests and diseases, offering enhanced resilience and productivity to Odisha’s rice farmers.
