A Kisan Mela-cum-Promotion and Field Demonstration Programme on CRRI technologies for soil health improvement and awareness on balanced fertilizer use was organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI) at Patuari village in Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha. The programme was attended by Dr. Prakash Chandra Jena, Senior Scientist; Er. Bhupendra Ghritalahre, Principal Scientist and Senior Technical Officer; and Shri Tapas Behera, Senior Technician, who actively interacted with the farmers and highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer application for sustainable agriculture.
During the programme, detailed discussions were held on maintaining soil health through the judicious and balanced use of fertilizers in paddy and other crops. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing crop productivity while ensuring efficient water use, environmental protection, and long-term soil fertility. The scientists elaborated on the appropriate use of fertilizers in rice cultivation, organic farming practices, and the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural technologies. The awareness programme also familiarized farmers with various technologies developed by ICAR-CRRI for improving farm productivity and sustainability. Particular attention was given to the use of the Leaf Colour Chart (LCC) for efficient nitrogen management and the adoption of natural farming practices to enhance farmers’ income and promote sustainable agricultural development.
Farmers were further educated on organic farming, including the preparation and application of organic manures, their benefits, and the appropriate timing of their use in crop fields. The programme generated considerable interest among the farming community and encouraged active participation in discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions. A total of 245 farmers, comprising 108 male and 137 female participants, attended the programme. The farmers actively engaged in the discussions and demonstrated keen interest in adopting the recommended technologies and practices. The programme concluded successfully with full cooperation and enthusiastic participation from the farmers.
