Kisan Mela at Dalpur, Bankura – Organized by ICAR-CRRI
A Kisan Mela was held at Dalpur village, Chhatna block, Bankura district, West Bengal, organized by ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), Cuttack, in collaboration with Dalpur Sri Sri Gyanananda Saraswati Ashram on 24 June 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 600 farmers and farm women aimed to promote advanced agricultural technologies and sustainable practices.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director General, The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he highlighted the role of scientific farming and lauded the successful introduction of high-value crops like dragon fruit in Bankura as a model for crop diversification. The event was further enriched by the presence of dignitaries including Dr. G. Kar (Director, ICAR–CRIJAF), Dr. P.K. Dey (Director, ICAR–ATARI, Kolkata), Dr. M.J. Baig (Former Director, ICAR–CRRI), and the BDO of Chhatna.
Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Director, ICAR–CRRI, presided over the event, emphasizing CRRI’s commitment to rice research and farmer welfare. Fifteen exhibition stalls showcased improved crop varieties, agricultural implements, and climate-resilient technologies, drawing keen interest from farmers.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Pratap Bhattacharya (Coordinator, TSP) and an overview of TSP activities by Dr. Mridul Chakraborty (Nodal Officer, TSP). A Farmer-Scientist Interaction cum Quiz Session was also conducted, fostering knowledge exchange. The quiz winners were awarded prizes. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Biswajit Mondal, Principal Scientist and TSP member, marking a successful day of farmer empowerment and technology transfer.
