Capacity Building on Integrated Pest, Disease, and Nematode Management in Direct-Seeded Rice Ecosystems of Odisha

A five-day training programme on “Integrated Management Strategies for Diseases, Insect Pests, and Nematodes in Direct-Seeded Rice Ecosystems of Odisha” was organized under EAP-459, sponsored by the Government of Odisha under “Innovative projects Scheme”, at the ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), Cuttack, from 17.02.26 to 21.02.26. The training programme covered key aspects of insect pests, diseases, and nematodes in direct-seeded rice, along with their integrated management strategies. Participants received hands-on training in pest identification, biological control, pheromone and light trap technology, IPM, organic farming, and safe pesticide use. Practical exposure was provided through field demonstrations and visits to research and production units at ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), helping farmers adopt sustainable crop protection practices. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Course Director Dr. Rupak Jena and coordinated by Dr. SD Mohapatra, Dr. Raghu S, and Dr. Keertana U. Altogether 28 participants, including farmers and Krushak Sathis from Sunapur, Laxmipur, R Nuasahi and Dekusahi Village of Raigad block, Gajapati district, Odisha, actively participated and gained practical knowledge on sustainable pest, disease and nematode management for improving productivity in direct-seeded rice ecosystems.
