ICAR-CRRI Organized Farmer Training on Integrated Nutrient Management under Khet Bachao Abhiyan in Kendrapara ![]()
ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR–CRRI), Cuttack, organized a farmer training programme on “Integrated Nutrient Management in Rice for Sustainable and Enhanced Crop Productivity” at Narsinghpur and Agapada villages in Rajkanika Block of Kendrapara district under the Government of India’s National Campaign on Khet Bachao Abhiyan.
The programme was led by Dr. Rahul Tripathi, Principal Scientist, and Dr. P.C. Jena, Senior Scientist, ICAR–CRRI, Cuttack, who sensitized farmers to the importance of balanced and integrated nutrient management in rice cultivation. The technical sessions highlighted the effective integration of organic manures, chemical fertilizers and biofertilizers to improve soil health, enhance nutrient availability and increase crop productivity.
Farmers were also introduced to need-based nitrogen management using the Customized Leaf Colour Chart (CLCC) and riceNxpert, a digital advisory tool designed to support balanced nitrogen application and improve fertilizer use efficiency. The sessions emphasized the importance of scientific and need-based fertilizer application to minimize excessive fertilizer use while maintaining crop productivity.
The programme witnessed encouraging participation from farming communities at both locations. At Agapada village, 90 farmers, including 40 women, participated in the programme, while Narsinghpur village recorded the participation of 45 farmers, including 15 women. The active participation of women farmers highlighted their important role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
The programme aimed to enhance farmers’ awareness and encouraged the adoption of integrated nutrient management practices and technologies to improve rice productivity, maintain soil health and promote sustainable rice-based farming systems.
