Central Rice Research Institute Kisan Mela cum promotion and field demonstration of CRRI technologies for soil health improvement and awareness on balance fertilizer use

An Kisan Mela cum promotion and field demonstration of CRRI technologies for soil health improvement and awareness on balance fertilizer use was organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI) at Tartanga village under Jagatsinghpur. Senior Scientist Dr. Prakash Chandra Jena, Principal Scientist Dr. Panneerselvam, Principal Scientist Dr. B. Mandal, Senior Technical Officer Er. Bhupendra Ghritalahre., Shri Sarat Chandra Sahu, Chairman District Council Shri Manoj Kumar Bhoi participated in the program. They created awareness among the farmers about the importance and benefits of balanced fertilizer application.
The programme discussed about maintaining soil health through balanced fertilizer application in paddy and other crops. Special emphasis was given to increasing crop production while ensuring water conservation and environmental protection. Appropriate use of fertilizers in paddy cultivation, organic farming and adoption of environment friendly farming methods were also discussed in detail. The awareness programme made the farmers aware about various agricultural technologies developed by the Central Rice Research Institute. In particular, information was given about increasing farmers’ income and sustainable agricultural development by using Leaf Color Chart (LCC) and natural farming methods. The farmers were also made aware about organic farming, use of organic fertilizers, its preparation method, benefits and appropriate timing of application in the fields. Total 171 (83 male and 88 female) farmers actively participated in the programme and participated in the discussions. During the program, the farmers fully cooperated with all the scientists and experts. The program was coordinated and managed by the Sarpanch of Tartanga village, Mrs. Pushpalata Jena.
