On the auspicious occasion of the 77th Republic Day 2026, ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack resonated with a profound sense of patriotism, dignity, and national pride. Dr. G. A. K. Kumar, Director, ICAR-CRRI, offered floral tributes to the revered freedom fighters and national leaders, ceremonially unfurled the National Tricolour and delivered an inspiring address, eloquently reflecting on the glorious significance of Republic Day while highlighting the landmark achievements of the institute. He called upon the scientific fraternity to envision the future with resolve and innovation by developing climate-resilient rice varieties and pioneering farmer-centric technologies to meet emerging challenges under changing climatic conditions.
Adding a moment of honour and remembrance to the celebration, photo frames of two illustrious scientists Dr. Sailaja Hitalmani, a Pioneer of Marker-Assisted Breeding in Rice in India, and Dr. Sanghamitra Samantaray, an Architect of Doubled Haploid Breeding in Rice were installed in the CRRI Conference Hall, commemorating their exceptional contributions to rice research. The celebration was further enriched by the enthusiastic participation of CRRI staff along with their family members, and the joyful presence of students from CRRI High School, whose collective spirit and vibrant involvement lent grace, warmth, and splendour to the solemn and proud occasion.
