CRRI Conducts Training programme under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) Programme on “Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Plant Protection Chemicals” at Dhamnagar Block, Bhadrak District, Odisha ![]()
A training program as a part of the MGMG Programme was organized on 21st May 2026 at Radhaballavpur village, Dhamnagar block, Bhadrak district by a team of scientists from ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack on the topic “Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Plant Protection Chemicals in Rice-based Production Systems.” The programme was funded by the Govt. of Odisha sponsored innovative project titled “Production, Popularization and Supply of Quality Bioinoculants for Rice-based Cropping and Farming Systems of Odisha.”
The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among farmers about the adverse effects of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and to promote their judicious replacement with biofertilizers, biopesticides and other alternative means for sustainable and balanced nutrient management and plant protection. The training aimed to encourage environmentally sustainable practices while enhancing farm productivity and profitability. A total of 54 progressive farmers from the 4S4R Dhamnagar Farmer Producer Company participated in the program. Technical sessions of the training programme covered input efficient, climate-smart and resilient CRRI rice varieties, crop residue management and integrated nutrient management, prospects of NRRI Endo N liquid biofertilizer for environmental and economic sustainability, and non-chemical methods for insect and pathogen suppression. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sudipta Paul, Senior Scientist. Dr. J. Meher, Principal Scientist, Dr. D. Bhaduri, Senior Scientist, Dr. K. A. Molla, Senior Scientist and Dr. M. Annamalai, Scientist acted as experts. The training concluded with an interactive discussion session, where participating farmers actively engaged with the experts and clarified their queries regarding biofertilizer use and sustainable rice cultivation practices.
