Farmer Awareness and Demonstration Programme on CRRI Technologies for Soil Health Enhancement and Balanced Nutrient Management ![]()
A Farmer Awareness and Demonstration Programme on CRRI Technologies for Soil Health Enhancement and Balanced Nutrient Management was organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI) at Pompalo village, Khordha district. The programme was conducted by Senior Scientist Dr. Prakash Chandra Jena, Senior Technical Officer Er. Bhupendra Ghritalahre, and Shri Tapas Behera, who actively interacted with the farming community and created awareness about the importance and benefits of balanced fertilizer application for sustainable crop production.
During the programme, detailed discussions were held on maintaining soil health through balanced nutrient management in paddy and other crops. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing crop productivity while ensuring efficient water use and environmental sustainability. The experts highlighted the scientific and judicious use of fertilizers in rice cultivation, the role of organic farming, and the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural practices for long-term soil fertility improvement. The participants were also introduced to various farmer-friendly technologies developed by ICAR-CRRI. Particular attention was given to the use of the Leaf Colour Chart (LCC) for efficient nitrogen management in rice, which helps improve fertilizer-use efficiency, reduce input costs, and increase farmers’ income. Information on natural farming approaches and their contribution to sustainable agricultural development was also shared.
The programme further sensitized farmers about organic farming practices, including the preparation and use of organic manures, their benefits, and the appropriate timing and methods of application in crop fields. The interactive sessions enabled farmers to gain practical knowledge on improving soil health and adopting sustainable farming practices. A total of 199 farmers, comprising 111 male and 88 female participants, actively attended the programme and took part in the discussions. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, and the farmers extended full cooperation to the scientists and technical experts throughout the event.
