Two-Day Training on Climate-Smart Agriculture for Resilient Rice Cultivation held in Dehradun
ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR–CRRI), Cuttack, in collaboration with the Watershed Management Directorate, Dehradun, organized a two-day training programme on “Climate Smart Agricultural Practices for Enhancing Resilience and Mitigating GHG Emissions from Rice Fields” at Watershed Management Directorate, Dehradun during 29–30 August 2025. The programme was conducted under the aegis of the World Bank–funded Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Rainfed Farming Project (UCRRFP).
The training was inaugurated by Shri Himanshu Khurana, I.A.S., Project Director / ACEO, Watershed Department. In his address, he emphasized the critical need for adopting climate-smart strategies in rice ecosystems to ensure sustainable production, while simultaneously addressing the challenges posed by climate change. The programme was attended by field functionaries, extension personnel, and progressive farmers of Haridwar and U S Nagar district.
The programme aimed to raise awareness of rice-farming vulnerabilities under climate change, introduce Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices, and showcase technologies to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Anjani Kumar, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CRRI, highlighted CSA benefits and the need to train field staff and farmers for wider adoption.
The valedictory session was chaired by Shri Shankar Koranga, Vice-President of the State Level Watershed Council, and attended by Shri Dilip Jawalkar, I.A.S., Secretary / Chief Project Director, Watershed Department, along with Smt. Kahkashan Naseem, PD (SARRA). This training marked a key step toward climate-smart agriculture in Uttarakhand, strengthening farmer resilience and supporting climate-change mitigation.
