Training on Natural Farming at Raikia Block, Kandhamal (22–24 October 2025)

ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack, conducted a three-day training programme on Natural Farming from October 22–24, 2025, at Bierpanga, Lamungia, and Gudakia villages of Raikia block, Kandhamal, under the TSP initiative. The programme aimed to promote eco-friendly rice-based farming among tribal farmers.
Dr. B. Raghavendra Goud (Scientist, Crop Production) explained the core principles of natural farming enhancing soil organic matter, reducing soil disturbance, crop diversification, and avoiding synthetic inputs. The use of bio-inputs, green manure (Dhaincha), Beejamrita seed treatment, intercropping, and mulching to improve soil health and productivity were also highlighted.
Dr. Raghu S (Scientist, Crop Protection) demonstrated eco-friendly pest and disease management methods such as seed treatment with cow urine or ash, crop rotation, intercropping with pest-repellent crops (marigold, garlic), and use of bio-formulations like Neemastra, neem seed kernel extract, Brahmastra, Agniastra, and sour buttermilk.
Altogether, 150 farmers and farm women participated in the training, which concluded with farmer-scientist interactions and field visits. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Raghu S and Dr. B. Raghavendra Goud.
