Skill training programme on Improved Fruits and Vegetable Production
A skill training programme on enhanced fruit and vegetable production was conducted on 10th September 2025 at Gopinathpur village, located in the Salipur block of Cuttack district, under the Farmer FIRST Programme. Altogether 40 farmers, including women farmers from the adopted villages of Gopinathpur, Malihata, and Ganapur, participated in the event.
Dr. Biswajit Mondal, Principal Scientist at CRRI and Principal Investigator of the project, welcomed the participants and outlined the agenda of the programme. He also provided an overview of the Farmer FIRST Programme, highlighting its journey and key achievements. Dr. Govind Chandra Acharya, Co-Principal Investigator and Head of CHES, Bhubaneswar, shared technical insights on the cultivation of improved varieties of fruits and vegetables using advanced technologies. Dr. Satyapriya Singh, Scientist (Agricultural Entomology), emphasized the importance of pest and disease management in vegetable farming. He particularly addressed insect control measures for major cash crops such as tomato, brinjal, pointed gourd, cauliflower, as well as fruit crops like mango and papaya, aiming to reduce yield losses faced by farmers. The scientists visited the fields of progressive vegetable farmers, including Shri Bimbadhara Samal and Shri Chhaturbhuja Bhuyan. At the conclusion of the programme, Shri Ashish Kumar Rout, an innovative vegetable farmer, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
