ICAR-CRRI Strengthens Rice Farming in Odisha with BPH-Resistant Varieties

As part of the ongoing efforts under the RKVY funded project entitled “Popularization of BPH Resistant Rice Variety for Uplifting the Odisha Rice Farmers’ Income”, Dr. SD. Mohapatra Head, Crop Protection Division, ICAR-CRRI and Principal Investigator of the project undertook a successful outreach program across 17 villages in 10 districts of Odisha.
During this extensive campaign, Dr. S.D. Mohapatra and his project team distributed Brown Planthopper (BPH) resistant rice varieties, CR Dhan-317 and CR Dhan-805, in the districts of Balasore, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Anugul, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj to the farming community. A total of 343 farmers received 1,050 kg of CR Dhan-317 and 2,180 kg of CR Dhan-805 seeds.
The ICAR-CRRI scientist also shared scientific knowledge to the farmers, aiming to enhance their understanding of integrated pest management practices and the advantages of cultivating BPH-resistant rice varieties.
Through this integrated approach, ICAR-CRRI continues to empower Odisha’s farmers with sustainable, pest-resilient rice cultivation options contributing to enhanced crop productivity and rural livelihoods.
