Fostering Experiential Learning: OUAT Students Gain Grassroots Exposure to Bioagents, Pheromone and Light Traps at ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack

As part of the academic exposure to entomological research and innovation in rice, fifty-five undergraduate students from the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar, undertook an educational visit to the ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack under the mentorship of Prof. M. K. Tripathy.
The visit was marked by a focused interaction with Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra, Head of the Crop Protection Division, ICAR-CRRI, who delivered a comprehensive demonstration on eco-friendly pest management technologies.
The session showcased ICAR-CRRI patented Alternative Energy Light Trap and other developed products viz., Solar 24×7 Insect Trap. Beside, pheromone trap, delta trap, sticky trap and bracon-card were also demonstrated. Dr. Mohapatra explained, the ICAR-CRRI’s commitment to promoting sustainable and cost-effective non-chemical methods of pest management for farmers across the country.
The students also visited the institute’s biocontrol laboratory, insectarium, pheromone production unit and gained valuable insights into advanced plant protection techniques, making the visit a highly informative and enriching experience.
