A field visit was conducted today by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, DAFE, Government of Odisha, Shri Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, along with his team at Kandabinda village under Odapada block, Dhenkanal district, to review the EcoLime+ demonstration fields and interact with farmers.
The visit was attended by the Director of Horticulture, Collector of Dhenkanal, CDAO Dhenkanal, and other officials from the State Department. Around 40 farmers actively participated in the interaction program.
The demonstrations are being carried out under the SAFAR project funded by the Government of Odisha. During the visit, Dr. Pratap Bhattacharyya, Principal Investigator of the project, along with Dr. Rubina Khanam and Dr. Dillip R. Sarangi, scientists of ICAR-CRRI, provided a detailed explanation on the benefits and field performance of EcoLime+.
EcoLime+, a composite value-added product, supplies essential nutrients such as phosphorus, silicon, calcium, and magnesium. It plays a significant role in acid soil management by increasing soil pH, which in turn enhances the availability of phosphorus in acidic soils. This improved nutrient availability has the potential to reduce the use of DAP fertilizer by up to 25 percent, as explained by the scientists.
Farmers also shared their experiences during the interaction, highlighting visible improvements in soil condition and crop performance with the use of EcoLime+.
The visiting team appreciated the ongoing efforts and emphasized the importance of scaling up such sustainable technologies for wider adoption across the state.
