ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack organized “Concluding function of of Swachhata Pakhwada-2025 (being observed from 16-31 December, 2025)” on 2.01.2026 at 3.00 PM in Dr. K.Ramiah Conference Hall. The programme commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Srikanta Lenka, Chairman, Swachh Bharat Committee, who deliberated an overview of the various Swachhata-related activities conducted during the Pakhwada, emphasizing on cleanliness drives, swachhata awareness programmes, and community engagement initiatives undertaken within the institute and nearby villages. Mr. Ashisha Kumar Sethy, Asst. Teacher, CRRI Government High School, Cuttack and residents of Kanheipur village shared their views and experiences, highlighting on the importance of cleanliness, waste segregation, and collective responsibility in maintaining a hygienic environment. Their participation reflected the strong community involvement under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Mr. Jubuli Behera, Deputy Commissioner (Sanitation), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Cuttack graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he elaborated on the sanitation management system of Cuttack city and stressed the role of coordinated efforts between municipal bodies, institutions, and citizens in achieving a clean and sustainable urban ecosystem.
Dr. G. A. K. Kumar, Director, ICAR–CRRI, Cuttack, delivered a comprehensive address emphasizing not only on the effective utilization of waste through innovative agricultural practices but also the reduction of waste generation at source. He highlighted on the significance of public awareness, behavioural change, and adoption of sustainable waste management practices to achieve long-term environmental sustainability.
The prizes were distributed by Dr. G.A.K. Kumar Director, ICAR-CRRI and Chief Guest Mr. Behera, DC, Sanitation, CMC to the winners (students of CRRI Government High School, Cuttack) for being selected in drawing and essay competitions. Also, Dr. Rubina Khanam, Scientist & Member, ISBC was felicitated for her nice lecture on the topic “Converting waste into wealth: sustainable innovations for agriculture” in the concluding function.
The meeting was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Arabinda Mahanty, Member, ISBC. The concluding function was moderated by Dr. Rubina Khanam, Scientist & Senior Member, Institute Swachha Bharat Committee.
