Nematode Management in Mechanized Direct Seeded Rice-a Training and Awareness Programme organized by ICAR-CRRI 
A training and awareness programme on “Nematodes in mechanized direct seeded rice and their management through biocontrol agents” was organized by the ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), Cuttack, on 12 December 2025 at Sunapur village of Raigad block in Gajapati district, Odisha. The programme was aimed at enhancing farmers’ awareness and capacity on identifying nematode problems in direct seeded rice cropping system and adopting eco-friendly and sustainable management practices.
Altogether 250 farmers and stakeholders participated in the programme, including 160 male and 90 female participants, reflecting the growing interest and adoption of mechanized direct seeded rice cultivation in the region. Interactive sessions were conducted involving scientists, line department officials, and farmers, focusing on the occurrence, symptoms, and yield losses caused by plant-parasitic nematodes in direct seeded rice–vegetable cropping systems. Special emphasis was laid on sustainable management using organic inputs and biocontrol agents.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Rupak Jena (Organizing Secretary) along with Dr. Raghu S. and Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Scientists of ICAR-CRRI. Shri Biranchi Narayan Mangaraj, Agriculture Development Officer, R. Udayagiri, and Smt. Suprija Kanhar, Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO), Raigada Block, also interacted with the participants. They provided technical guidance on nematode identification, integrated nematode management practices, and the role of biocontrol agents in minimizing nematode infestation while ensuring environmental safety. The programme also facilitated farmer–scientist interactions, allowing participants to share field experiences and clarify their queries related to nematode management in mechanized direct seeded rice.
