Field Day and Awareness Programme on Nematode Management in Mechanized Direct Seeded Rice Organized by ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack

A Field Day and Awareness Programme on Nematodes in Mechanized Direct Seeded Rice and Its Management through Biocontrol Agents was successfully organized by ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack on 24th October 2025 at Kabilpur village of Garadapur block, Kendrapada district, under the sponsorship of EAP-459. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 150 farmers and farm women, who actively engaged in various interactive sessions and demonstrations. The major highlights of the Awareness programme included hands-on identification of major nematodes in rice, biological management strategies for nematode control, and nature-based solutions for enhancing rice productivity. Participants also visited the field of a progressive farmer to gain practical exposure to mechanized direct seeded rice cultivation and identification of nematodes infection in rice. An open quiz competition was conducted to encourage farmers participation, followed by prize distribution to the winners. The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Rupak Jena, Scientist, Crop Protection Division, and Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra, Head, Crop Protection Division, as Organizing Secretaries, along with Dr. Milan Kumar Lal, Scientist, Crop Physiology & Biochemistry Division. Dr. Shriram Ratan Pradhan, Assistant Horticulture Officer, Garadpur Block, enlightened the farmers about nematodes in vegetable cultivation. The event was conducted smoothly, ensuring effective dissemination of knowledge on the economic importance of nematodes and the role of biocontrol agents in sustainable agricultural production.
