Training Programme on Climate-Resilient Paddy Production and Protection Technologies for Sustainable Livelihood of Tribal Framers

The ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), Cuttack organized a four-day training programme on Climate-Resilient Paddy Production and Protection Technologies for Sustainable Livelihood of Tribal Farmers from 28–31 August, 2025 under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) programme for tribal farmer beneficiaries of West Bengal. Dr. Mridul Chakraborti served as the course director, while Dr. Raghu S, Dr. Sushmita Munda, and Dr. Rupak Jena were the training coordinators.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Sanghamitra Samantaray, Director, ICAR-CRRI urged the farmers to adopt latest climate resilient rice varieties developed in the country to meet the challenges from changing climate. He also emphasized the need of integrating vegetable cultivation, intercropping, apiary and livestock farming to enhance income from small land holdings. Dr. S.D. Mohapatra, Head, Crop Protection Division urged the farmers to adopt integrated pest management solutions against the emerging biotic stresses.
Altogether 10 farmers and 11 farmwomen from Purulia and Bankura district of West Bengal participated in the programme and gained practical knowledge on various aspects of climate-resilient paddy production and protection technologies aimed at ensuring sustainable livelihoods. The farmers are currently growing CRRI varieties CR Dhan 320, CR Dhan 312, CR Dhan 804, CR Dhan 807 and CR Dhan 214 in their farms and the training programme provided them comprehensive guidance about varietal, production and protection technologies to maximize the productivity in sustainable manner.
