Senior Scientist Dr. Prakash Chandra Jena, Principal Scientist Dr. P. C. Rath, Principal Scientist Dr. S. Lenka, Scientist Dr. Rupak Jena, Senior Technical Officer Er. Bhupendra Ghritlahre, Senior Technical Assistant Shri Jyoti and Technical Officer Shri K. C. Paluar joined the programme to sensitize the farmers on the need for Integrated Pest and Disease Management.\r\nDuring the program, farmers were informed about the major pests, diseases and nematodes that attack the paddy crop during the planting and seedling stages. Farmers were guided to take timely management measures to reduce crop losses by detecting pests and diseases at an early stage. The importance of preventive and agricultural practices such as use of healthy and high quality seeds, balanced fertilizer application, proper plant spacing, soil hygiene, removal of alternative food crops and proper water management were highlighted. In addition, farmers were advised to regularly inspect their fields and use Light Trap, Pheromone Trap and other pest monitoring techniques for early detection and monitoring of pests. The awareness program also discussed about various technologies developed by the Paddy Research Center, Leaf Color Chart (LCC).
